Take-all patch is a serious turfgrass disease caused by a soilborne fungus that primarily affects cool-season grasses, especially bentgrass used in golf courses and high-maintenance turf.

Symptoms

  • Circular to irregular patches of dead turf, 5–50 cm wide, often expanding over time

  • Initially appears as reddish-bronze or light green before turning brown and necrotic

  • Blackened roots and crowns when examined closely

  • Plants pull up easily due to root rot
