Description

Bunny Bait has evolved from more than a decade of intensive rabbit control operations from a leading Vertebrate Pest control company.  Many if not most suburban/industrial rabbit populations involve situations were control by fencing, warren destruction or fumigation is simply not sufficient to achieve a high reduction or is too expensive to carry out.  The most effective control consists of strategic poisoning with the anticoagulant point, pindone (similar to rat poison), combined with one or more of the above.

  • Can be used in build up areas
  • As a chronic poisoner, domestic animals/wildlife would need to have several feeds before sufficient toxic action is caused to induce death.
  • Does not build up in the food chain.

Areas of Use
Farms, Parks, Fields

Bunny Bait - used for the control of rabbits in and around farms and farm buildings and in urban and closely settled areas. Pindone is one of two poisons registered for rabbit control in Victoria. The other poison is sodium fluoroacetate or “1080”, which is normally used in rural areas only. 1080 cannot be used in built-up areas because of the dangers of secondary poisoning of dogs and cats (which may eat rabbit carcasses).
Bunny Bait contains 0.5g/kg of Pindone, present as a sodium salt. It is a first generation anti-coagulant poison that blocked the process in the liver that recycle vitamin K, which prevents the blood from clotting, resulting in death. This may take several days to occur. Designed in accordance with the directions of the appropriate state or territory government department and legislations. Pack contains: gate sign, baiting instructions, dyed and sterilised oat bait. (Bunny bait is dyed green to reduce risk to birds and sterilised to prevent seed germination).

Active Ingredient (Compound)

  • Pindone sodium salt — a first-generation anticoagulant rodenticide at 0.5 g/kg concentration (i.e., 0.05% w/w in bait). Rabbits require multiple feedings before lethal effects occur.

Scheduling (Regulatory Classification)

  • Pindone is classified as a Schedule 6 poison in Australia, meaning it is moderately hazardous and available only to licensed or professional users in concentrated form.

  • Ready-to-use baits (like Bunny Bait) containing pindone sodium salt are typically distributed under regulated conditions where state/territory government approval is required.

ParameterDetails
Product NameBunny Bait (e.g. BunnyBait / Barmac)
Active ConstituentPindone sodium salt (0.5 g/kg in bait)
Chemical TypeFirst-generation anticoagulant
Scheduling (Australia)Schedule 6 poison
FormulationOat-based bait (dyed and sterilized oats)

Additional Notes

  • Slow-acting (chronic) poison: Multiple feedings over several days are required to cause death via internal hemorrhage.

  • Less risk of secondary poisoning than more potent anticoagulants because pindone doesn’t bio-accumulate and rabbit carcasses typically contain insufficient toxin to harm predators/pets.

  • Approved for use in urban and peri‑urban areas where compound 1080 is restricted or prohibited due to higher risks of non-target exposure.
